Urban Decay Naked Heat Makeup Looks #2 Scorched!

Urban Decay Naked Heat Eye Makeup Look 5

Urban Decay Naked Heat

So if you can detect a little sadness in my eyes (or eye in this case) it’s because today’s look didn’t go quite to plan! Finn decided to cut his nap short by about an hour and he desperately wanted in on the action! I gave him an old eyeshadow palette and a (Lancome!)brush to occupy him but he was all about the Heat palette so I struggled big time! That plus the miserable weather in the UK today making for bad lighting the whole thing was pretty much doomed to fail from the get go! However, I’m not here to put a downer on your day and moaning isn’t really my thing! After some freaking out on my part the photos didn’t actually turn out half bad. Phew!

Urban Decay Naked Heat- 7 Looks in 7 days -Day 2 Simple smoke

Products used

To prime the lid- MAC Soft Ochre

Illamasqua loose powder

NAKED Heat shades used

‘Scorched’ (all over lid)

‘Ashes’ (through the crease and outer ‘V’ also smudged under lower lashes)

‘En Fuego’ (through the crease)

‘Lumbre’ (over inner 1/3 of the lid)

As I didn’t want to use a liquid or gel liner for this look I used a black eyeshadow from the Zoeva Nude spectrum palette on a push liner brush just along the top lashline. I also used my new favourite mascara, Makeup forever smokey lash. And a little bit of Bobbi Brown creamy concealer (porcelain peach) through the brow bone. All in all, it turned into quite a simple smokey eye. It’s definitely one that you could get away with wearing in the daytime. I’m expecting an eyelash delivery from Amazon tomorrow so the rest of the week’s looks should be a bit more exciting!

I hope you are enjoying this series so far! See Day 1 here.Let me know if you have this palette and what your favourite shades and looks to do with it are!

Urban Decay Naked Heat Makeup Looks- #1 Low Blow

Urban Decay Naked Heat Eye Makeup Look 5

The Naked Heat palette is everywhere right now and for all of the right reasons. It really is a beautiful palette and of course, because it’s from Urban Decay the shadows are beyond dreamy both to look at and to work with. That’s why even though I only posted my initial thoughts last week (here) I wanted to dedicate a series of posts to it over the next week that will allow me to use every shade to create various looks.

So today I was planning on going for a very natural look.  Does anyone else find that when they tell themselves ‘go natural’ the total opposite always happens?? See the thickness of that winged liner? That was not supposed to be there. I do quite like how this turned out regardless of my rebellion.

Unlike my last Naked Heat post where I was a right giddy kipper and used 7 shades to create a look. I was much more reserved this time and just used three.

‘Low Blow’-crease

‘Cayenne’-Crease and outer V

‘Ounce’- Inner corner highlight

I also ran ‘Low Blow’ and ‘Cayenne’ under the lower lashes

Primer-MAC Soft Ochre paint pot

Illamasqua loose powder to set

Technic Skinny liquid liner (Review on that here)

Makeup Forever Smokey lash mascara

Avon Supershock gel liner

Hopefully, these posts will give you ideas for looks that you can do with this palette or any similar eyeshadows you have. As well as giving me an excuse to play with the palette some more and put out some relaxed non-review type content. In case you are fed up of hearing about this palette already. I’ll be posting as usual in between doing these looks so please do stick around.

NIP+FAB Foundation #Selfieready Skin. No Filter Required!

NIP+FAB is a brand that I’m pretty sure I have never used before.Primarily a skin care brand that recently launched a makeup line. To be honest I don’t know that I would have necessarily gone out of my way to pick up any of it just because I haven’t heard too much about it. But I noticed my local Superdrug had started stocking it the other day. How many of you can resist the inviting glow of a new makeup stand?

I’m pretty sure that every makeup addict has one particular product that they gravitate towards before all others. Mine has always been foundation. I think the search for the holy grail, although I declared it over with NARS Sheer Glow and then very recently Lancome Teint Idole 24hr has me stuck in a magpie habit when it comes to foundation.

NIP+FAB Is currently 1/3 off at Superdrug so I thought I’d give the foundation a go for £8.62. I got shade 20 (olive skin-yellow undertone) which appeared to be the most popular shade as the shelf was empty. Top Tip: go in the drawers under the stand if you can’t find your shade in a product, although frowned upon I’ve only been told off once for helping myself to hidden stock.

NIP+FAB?

If you follow my Instagram or Twitter you might already know my thoughts on this! I’ve been totally obsessing over it! What with this plus the Naked Heat palette, it’s been a really exciting couple of weeks makeup wise for me!

What’s so good about it you ask? Where do I start?!?

Packaging

A super teeny tiny little plastic squeezy bottle. It’s hard to believe that it contains 30ml of product but it does. There’s nothing fancy about it but I love that. It’s sleek and compact, perfectly portable and there’s no risk of the bottle breaking.

Formula

Because the Packaging is basically identical to MAC Face and Body, I found that I was totally expecting a dupe here and it was hard not to compare the two when I first applied it. In comparison, yes it’s similar. It’s a water based buildable coverage foundation. The formula of the NIP+FAB foundation is slightly thicker than Face and Body but it’s close as a dupe. I’ve used Face and Body for years and I personally prefer the NIP+FAB formula. I like that it has a little extra coverage and it gives you that reassuring grip so you know that it’s sticking around without being uncomfortable to wear and looking mask-like.

Application/Finish

I like to apply the majority of my foundations with my fingers and then blend a little with a brush or a beauty blender to finish off. This foundation works well applied this way. The finish is said to be natural matte. I find it more of a semi-matte satin finish. The claims of a photoshopped complexion that guarantees ‘#nofilter status’ seems totally far fetched but it actually delivers!! I posted this very close up selfie on Instagram after the first time I used it. An iPhone image with no filter and no editing whatsoever! I applied a pea sized amount of product here and then around half that again and I found that to give me enough coverage so my skin still looked like skin (nose freckles etc.) I believe I could have added more without any problems had I wanted to build up to almost full coverage.

Lasting power

A solid 8 hours. I kept an eye on how it wore throughout the day and it wasn’t budging. The finish stayed flawless even though it was a pretty hot day and I did a 2 hour trip in my air conditioning free car!

Shade Range

10 shades of foundation from pale to dark with various undertones. Plus 2 mixer shades.  A light and a dark which respectively alter the shade of foundation by half a shade with one drop.

SPF?

Apparently not. Or at least not that I can find after a doing some research. It does contain Titanium Dioxide which causes the annoying ghost face when flash photography is used. However, it’s the last ingredient on the list so I’m presuming the quantity isn’t going to be enough to do this. I’m hoping that’s the case at least.

Price

RRP £12.95. Not quite the cheapest in terms of drugstore foundation but absolutely worth every penny in my opinion.

Skin Suitability

I have a normal skin type which is a little dehydrated and prone to occasional dryness. I’ve a feeling that it could look cakey on an overly dry skin type. I used it on my Mum who has the same skin type with no primer/moisturiser (my Dad was asleep where Mum keeps her skincare and heaven forbid we wake the beast! ;)) Mixed with a little Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua to lighten the shade, the overall finish was beautiful. It did need a little extra blending though as it settled into lines and looked heavier than it would have had a moisturiser been applied first. Oily skinned ladies should get along just fine with it. Again if the skin is extremely oily maybe not so much and I’d advise prepping the skin and setting with an oil control finishing spray/powder.

Availability

Overall thoughts?

I am trying to hold off declaring this my new holy grail as I’ve only used it twice and it was only the other week that I declared Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear as HG but I think it is just that! I am absolutely in love with it to the point that I’m going to stock up my professional makeup kit with every shade. It’s just that good!! So far, aside from the fact that it has no name (really annoying!!), I cannot find a fault. For me, it’s absolute perfection!!

Have you tried any of the NIP+FAB makeup line? Any favourites?
